Goat Control Operation 2024
We've employed the services of professional contractors to carry out a goat control operation in reserves across Whakatipu from 8 July 2024 over four-to-six weeks, weather permitting.

Whakatipu area
A professional hunting contractor will carry out a goat control operation which will be undertaken on the ground, using firearms, over July and August. The aim of this operation is to reduce the goat population in several areas and the likelihood of goats causing further nuisance.
When will work start?
This work will occur anytime from Monday 8 July anytime between the hours of 8.00am-4.30pm for an estimated four to six weeks, weather permitting.
What to expect
Public walking tracks and mountain bike trails in these reserves may be closed temporarily if work is being undertaken nearby. Signage and personnel will be in place to ensure safe operations. Please follow the instructions of contractors on site.

Water Tank Reserve (Crow’s Nest Arthurs Point)

Ben Lomond Reserve (above Skyline Gondola – Queenstown building and Queenstown luge).
This operation aimed to reduce the likelihood of goats as a hazard or nuisance to users of tracks and trails, to vehicles and to native vegetation and biodiversity in these locations.

This operation (highlighted on the map in orange) involved ground hunting, and all professional hunters were clearly visible. Signage and personnel were in place to ensure safe operations.
