Aubrey Road Wastewater Pipe Upgrades
Project status
Starting Monday 14 July 2025.
About the project
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Stewart Civil will be working to upgrade part of the existing wastewater main on a section of Aubrey Road, between Beacon Point Road and Bay View Road.
They’ll also replace a water main in the area while on site, helping to avoid future disrutpion by carrying out both projects at the same time, instead of one after the other.
The existing wastewater main on this section of Aubrey Road is causing significant capacity issues, as the smaller and older pipe struggles to manage current flows.
By completing these upgrades, we’ll improve the functionality of the wastewater network in Wānaka, help to avoid potential wastewater overflows, and provide for future growth in the area.
Haven’t we already upgraded the pipe here before?
We acknowledge plenty of work and disruption has taken place on Aubrey Road in the past, as we’ve worked to upgrade other sections of the wastewater pipe in the area. This final section being upgraded was deferred from previous work carried out in the area so Council could complete assessments for a future pump station to be located on Beacon Point Road.
What to expect as part of these works
As with any construction project, some disruption should be expected by nearby residents once work begins. Generally, additional noise, vibrations, and heavy vehicle movements are likely during construction.
Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.
To complete these works safely and efficiently, temporary traffic management and changes to road loayouts will be required in the area.
Temporary traffic management:
Monday 14 July:
Starting from Monday 14 July until Friday 25 July, stop/go traffic lights will be operating on Aubrey Road and at its intersection with Beacon Point Road. The southbound lane on Bay View Drive will be closed to vehicles.
Monday 28 July:
From Monday 28 July until early September, traffic management will be reduced to include a closure to the eastbound lane of Aubrey Road from Bay View Drive through to Beacon Point Road.
Early September until mid-October:
From early September until mid-October, the eastbound lane of Aubrey Road will be closed from Beacon Point Road through to Bay View Drive.
Any questions?
If you have any questions or concerns about these works, please contact QLDC’s Services team by calling 03 443 0024 or emailing services@qldc.govt.nz
