Camping grounds must be registered and inspected on an annual basis.  Get all the details on how to register a camping ground and the legal requirements.   

All camping grounds must comply with the Camping Grounds Regulations 1985 before registration is approved.  You can read the regulations below: 

Camping Ground Regulations 1985

    • Contact our  Environmental Health team to discuss your licensing requirements.

    • Contact a duty planner to check whether it's permitted to operate a camp ground at the proposed address or a resource consent is required. Please note, prior to issue of your camp ground registration certificate, we will need confirmation that you have either;

      • Applied for and been issued a resource consent (if required), or

      •  Your proposed camp ground location and activity is permitted under the district plan.

    • Be familiar with the Camping Grounds Regulations 1985. These regulations set out all the legal requirements you need to comply with.

    • It is recommended that you contact our Building Services team to check whether a building consent is required. Please note, prior to issue of your camping ground registration certificate, we will need confirmation that you don’t need a consent or have applied for and been issued either a code of compliance certificate (CCC) or certificate of public use (CPU).

    • Contact QLDC’s Trade Waste Team to seek clarification of what may be required with regards to trade waste discharge under the Integrated Three Waters Bylaw 2020 and Administration Manual.

    Fees

    The cost to register a new Camp Ground is $400 (inc GST).

    How to pay

    Online -  go to our online payments page and follow the prompts.  

    Via online banking: 02 0948 0002000 00.  Please ensure you add  the identifying number, which can be found on the registration certificate (CG##), as a reference.  This will ensure the correct allocation of fees. 

    In person at any Council office.  We accept cash, eftpos, Mastercard or Visa.

    You can also drop off your completed application at any of our Council offices.  

    Please note, a pre-opening inspection will be completed prior to the issue of the camp ground registration certificate.

    Once you receive your registration certificate you must clearly display it in a public part of the premises.

  • If you take over an existing camp ground, you must contact our Environmental Health team and apply to transfer the registration into your name within 14 days of taking over the business.

    After this period, the registration lapses and cannot be transferred. If there is no current registration you need to apply for a new one.

    The cost to transfer the registration of an existing Camp Ground is $72.50 (inc GST).

  • The annual registration period for camp grounds is from 1 October to 30 September each year.

    We'll send you a renewal application form and annual registration fee invoice before your expiry date.

    The cost to renew a Camp Ground registration is $400.00 (inc GST).
