Vegetation Control

Te whakarata otaota

Council contractors undertake vegetation control across the district, applying herbicides to pest plants and unwanted weed growth in footpaths and on road shoulders.

Current operations

The Parks team will carry out a pest control operation during April to spray Mimulus, a perennial bog herb, along the edges of Bullock Creek in Wānaka. This is to help control the spread of vegetation pest species and support aquatic life.

When will work start?

This operation will be carried out in stages over three weeks starting on Wednesday 9 April until Wednesday 30 April 2025, depending on weather.

The removal of this weed will support the flow of Bullock Creek and help to facilitate fish spawning.

Join our No Spray Register

If you don't want herbicides applied to the road frontage outside your property, you can request to be added to our No Spray Register. Those currently on the No Spray Register can also request to be removed.

One condition of being added to the No Spray Register is that you must agree to take over the control of noxious weeds in your road frontage, including:

  • the verge,

  • footpath,

  • the kerb and channel area of the carriageway.

If you do not control the weeds in the road frontage of your property, our contractors will resume spraying.

We post a Weekly Spray Report every Friday morning which details anticipated areas where spraying will occur during the following week. You'll find the latest report below:
