Group Fitness
Whiti Wātaka
Our group fitness programme delivers more than 60 classes each week, with more than 15 different styles from high intensity Les Mills workouts to our own Alpine yoga and stretch classes.
Quick links
The ground floor studio at Queenstown Events Centre has an elevated instructor stage, side mirrors, impact-absorbing floor, air conditioning and plenty of equipment. It's a great training environment!
-
All classes are included in your gym membership or casual entry price.
-
Most classes have a capacity of 45 participants.
-
Please book online to secure your place in advance; if available, any remaining places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Timetable changes
We occasionally make temporary changes to our group fitness timetable. These are normally posted on this page and also on our Facebook page. Look out for posters on the white board outside the group fitness studio at Queenstown Events Centre too.
Please note there will always be a different timetable on public holidays.
Events in the Stadium
The Queenstown Events Centre stadium is closed until 29 October - it will re-open on 30 October. We have a lot of events on in the coming weeks.
Polyfest will be on Wednesday and Thursday (23 and 24 October) and we'll need to cancel the Wednesday 11.15am Stretch class and the Thursday 11.15am Dynamic Yoga. The drums are just too loud for these quieter classes.
The dry-side change rooms will also be closed during Polyfest. Gym members will be able to use the pool change rooms.
This also means the carpark will be busier than usual in the coming weeks, so keep that in mind when coming to the gym.
CycleFit
We have created a series of Functional Interval Tests that we will run every quarter. Look out for our first one on Thursday February 29th, 6pm with Andi.
This comprises a VO2 max test followed by a series of intervals to test your strength, power and speed.
The exact same workout will be repeated throughout the year so you can evaluate your fitness and track your progress. Here are the dates for the rest of the year:
- 29 August
- 28 November
Downloading and using the Bodybike app is compulsory for this. This is free. Look for Bodybike Indoor Cycling with a small red bike icon on a black background.
Book as usual online.
Strength Development and Shapes
Shapes-this is a blend of core training movements from different methodologies like Pilates, barre and power yoga. This new workout sits in our suite of core training offerings. Pilates is our class to train accuracy and fundamental movements, Shapes take this a step further and will give your booty a burn unlike anything you have ever experienced. Then our Core classes train your core for athletic patterning and performance. Shapes has a fresh soundtrack and we have some fresh new faces delivering this for you to enjoy.
Strength Development-this takes the concept of a gym floor workout and brings it into the group fit studio. This is a structured series of workouts that is designed to get you really strong, really fast. Unlike Bodypump, you can move at a tempo that suits you (so not necessarily on the beat of the music) enabling you to bring your focus to your form.
Bodypump is our strength class focusing on muscular endurance, Grit Strength is our strength class that focuses on power and cardiovascular training. Strength Development is different from both of these offerings with lower repetitions enabling you to lift heavier weights and structured with unique focuses within every workout. There are twelve workouts in the series but you can dip in and out however it suits you. Each workout will run for two weeks so you can really maximise your understanding of it before we move on.

The empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic hour-long programme is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay Thai. Powered by great music and strong instructors, you’ll strike, punch and kick your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.
BodyCombat XP is an 'express', shorter class - see timetable for exact duration.
The original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weights will get you the results you came for - and fast! Not available as a TeenFit class.
BodyPump XP is an 'express', shorter class - see timetable for exact duration.
Based on cutting-edge scientific research, Core combines the best of personal training with the energy of a group fitness class all in just 30 minutes! Honing in on the torso and sling muscles that connect your upper body to your lower body, it's ideal for tightening your tummy and butt while also improving functional strength and assisting in injury prevention.
Builds strength and lean muscle. Works all the major muscle groups and sends your metabolism into overdrive to burn fat for hours after the workout. Stimulates the production of growth hormone which reduces fat and helps develop lean muscle. Not available as a TeenFit class.
The indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Take on the terrain with your inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials, and interval training. Discover your inner athlete while you sweat and burn to reach your endorphin high.
The indoor cycling workout that pushes you further. 30 minutes of high intensity interval
training (HIIT) on a bike, Sprint motivates you to push your physical and mental limits, led by an expertly trained instructor and a scientifically proven exercise programme.
This class features the optimal mix of strength, cardio and core training. A great cross training class that accommodates all levels. These classes are active and sometimes challenging. Poses flow from one posture to the next but at a faster pace than our slow flow class. Both a yoga experience and a workout.
A body conditioning routine that builds flexibility, strength, endurance and coordination without adding muscle bulk. Pilates emphasises the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. Pilates is one of the best forms of exercise for overall conditioning, toning and relaxation.
Our Evolve class is a step up from our standard Pilates class. We lift the level a little to challenge people who are looking for that bit extra. However, our instructor teaches to whoever is in the room so movements can be modified if needed. This class is not suitable for those who are injured so, for back injuries and similar conditions, we recommend attending the standard Pilates class where the movements are more fundamental. A reasonable base fitness is ideal.
This class flows from one posture to the next, but at a slow pace with plenty of time and space to get in and out of postures.
An athletic stretching class. Simple positions that target the most overused muscles in the body.
This class will reduce tightness and stress, and increase mobility and flexibility. It's a slow paced style of yoga with poses held for longer to allow the body to relax into each position.
Our yoga teachers put together a sequence of yoga poses that focus on stretching and relaxing. They might use props and the class will vary with the instructor.
This class adds water to your workout and is suitable for any level of fitness. It's a great way to improve aerobic fitness, develop your strength and burn fat without the impact, making it easier on muscles and joints.
Friendly Fitness
Close
Friendly Fitness is an entry level circuit style training class with core and stretching at the end. All exercises can be made harder or easier depending on what's needed. The emphasis is on getting in and getting moving in a friendly environment.
Are you pregnant and wanting to workout?
We recommend during pregnancy not adding anything new exercise wise into your schedule, if you have already been active we suggest:
Bodypump, Strength Development and RPM.
These are good choices as they focus on strength and don't move too quickly. It is recommended that you use a heart rate monitor if you come to RPM-talk to your midwife about what your heart rate should be.
If you are later in your pregnancy, make sure to check in with your instructor as you will need to make some modifications to the exercises in Bodypump and Strength Development. This is an easy change which allows you to still have a good workout whilst staying safe!
It is best to avoid classes that focus on the abdominals a lot (Like Core, Shapes and Pilates) and also high intensity classes (like Grit and Sprint). Bodycombat is also best avoided as the stability it requires is challenging for the pregnant body. It is better to focus on other areas of your fitness while you have a baby on board.
We have a fantastic pregnancy programme called You and Me that has both aquatic training and dryland training. Check it out! Specific training for your unique needs.
https://www.qldc.govt.nz/recreation/swim/aquatics-programmes-water-sports/you-me-ante-natal-fitness/
Then, once your baby is born we have a great class called Mum Strong. This is a great class to help you return to exercise safely, and you can bring your baby along! It's nice to hang out with other mums and everyone understands if your baby cries, or if you need to take a break to look after them.
Once your baby is 6 months old they can go into Playtime while you do a class or use the gym. This service is free if you are a member.
