It's Day One of the Queenstown Winter Festival 2017! Here's what's on today:
- The Festival Hub opens up at 12pm with yummy food & beverage options (don't forget to get your coffee fix at the Atomic Coffee Roasters Caravan from 8am!)
- 12pm Monteith's Dog Derby at Coronet Peak
- 2pm The QRC Hospo Race at Earnslaw Park followed by some fantastic music before the Monteith's Dog Barking at 3pm
- 4pm The Queenstown Village Rink opens
- 5pm there is a special cultural opening with our Queenstown Winter Festival Welcome, followed by Anika Moa and RHYTHMONYX
- 7pm Gibbston Valley Wine & Cheese Tasting - still tickets available!
- Those lucky enough to get tickets will enjoy the Comedy Night from 8pm
- Plus Apres Ski events.
Get amongst it!
Soon you will no longer be able to park on SH6 around Queenstown Events Centre. Look out for these giants! Head down Joe O'Connell Drive into our car park by the main entrance. The lovely people at Five Mile have also offered their south car park (i.e. round the back of Countdown, on the side nearer the Remarkables) for QEC users for a maximum 4 hour stay. Just walk across the sports fields to get here.
Unfortunately today's celebration in Frankton for National Volunteer Week has been cancelled. You can still join Volunteering Central for events in Cromwell and Alexandra tomorrow, and Wanaka St John's on Thursday to recognise everyone doing amazing work in our communities. Two of our Alpine Aqualand synchro swimming club members are heading to Dunedin this weekend to compete at the South Island Champs. Paige Cusiel (aged 13) & Emmerson Dickson (nearly 9!) will perform their 'figures' (set moves) on Saturday and then solo routines on Sunday. Good performances could mean they qualify for the national champs in Invercargill later this year. Go well, girls!
The Queenstown Trails Trust is kicking off its annual appeal to support the Wakatipu trails network and raise funds towards a new Jack’s Point Loop. You don't have to look this mean to play water polo at Alpine Aqualand! The friendly folk at QTwaterpolo Club start up again 13th June. Sessions run 7.30-9pm every Tuesday for 10 weeks. No experience necessary - coaching and guidance provided. Just pay regular pool entry plus $5 per game (or $25 for season). Club fee waived for new players!

Please slow down and take extra care driving through the car park at Queenstown Events Centre - MAX SPEED 5km/hr! All pedestrians should use the designated zebra crossings towards the main entrance and across to the netball courts next to the airport perimeter. Don't run out between parked cars.

Remember there are no Swim School classes at Alpine Aqualand tomorrow due to the Queen's Birthday holiday. But head to our leisure and lap pools to practice those skills anytime between 8am & 8pm (hydroslides open 10.30am-6.30pm).
Wanaka Pool is open for public swimming tomorrow from 12pm-6pm as normal.
Queen's Birthday holiday means no instructors and no kids climbing on the Rockatipu indoor wall on Monday. But current belay licence holders are welcome to drop by anytime between 8am-8pm.
